Make your clothes to give you extra confidence.
My name is Steve Hill, and I am the sort of person who is always thinking negatively; I used to be worried about almost anything in life, and I was generally dissatisfied.
My life couldn’t go on like this, and I wanted to figure out how to get out of it. I was twenty-two years old when I decided that enough was enough. I started reading books about successful people and found them not just fascinating but also helpful.
One of the books I read was about Tiger Woods, a golfer. He’s a fascinating character as well as a talented and effective golfer. It demonstrated how on the final day of each competition, he still wears red and black clothing. The colors red and black were chosen because they are bold and reflect his mood on this particular day. He’s basically telling all of the players that he’s going to go for broke, that he’s not afraid, that he’s not worried, that he’s just going to strike. He assumes that if he retains this mentality and plays well, he has a strong chance of winning the tournament. He clearly cannot win every tournament, but he seems to win a good number of them.
I recall being apprehensive about going to an interview. This was just the sort of circumstance that would cause me to be concerned and anxious. I’d wonder why I was bothering to go to the interview if I knew I was going to fail. Of course, this is an indication of my pessimism.
After reading all of these books, I realized that worrying would not benefit me and that I needed to focus on the positive. I wanted to go out and find a new suit because the ones I had were getting rusty and tatty. I’ll never forget seeing myself in the mirror wearing this new suit; I felt incredibly confident and accomplished. Wearing this new suit gave me a big confidence boost. I went into the interview feeling more confident than I had in a long time and pretended to be Tiger, choosing to just go for it and see what happened.
Since my brain was calm, the interview went well and the responses seemed to flow. I had a great time at the meeting and am delighted to inform you that I was offered the role two weeks later.
When I’m feeling down, I now go out and buy some new clothes for myself. If I’m going to a social event that I don’t really want to attend, I put on these new clothes to raise my morale. I often go with the right mindset: no more worrying, no more fear; I’m going to have a good time, and if I’m not having a good time, I’ll just come home early.
I’m continuing to read books written by a variety of influential people. I am always striving to better myself and achieve success. I no longer worry or stress as much as I used to, and I am generally content with my life.
I often participate in a variety of sports and strive to play in an offensive manner. The attack is said to be the strongest type of defense, and it’s also a lot more fun to play sports this way. I’ve also been frustrated because when I play snooker, for example, I still want to wear red and black.
